Monzo Bank is on a mission to make money work for everyone by moving away from the complicated and confusing ways of traditional banking. As a Backend Engineer III, you’ll work in cross-functional squads alongside product managers, designers, mobile engineers, data analysts, and more to build and support core areas of Monzo’s technology platform, covering everything from customer-facing features to payments, infrastructure, security, and financial crime prevention. This role focuses on designing resilient, distributed backend systems using technologies such as Go, Cassandra, Kafka, Kubernetes, Docker, Envoy Proxy, AWS, GCP, and React. Monzo embraces a product mindset, encouraging engineers to care about customer outcomes, make data-driven decisions, and collaborate in an environment that values flexibility, diversity, and inclusion. The company offers flexible working from anywhere in the UK, supports relocation to London, and provides visa sponsorship. Compensation includes a base salary of £75,000–£105,000 plus stock options, alongside a £1,000 annual learning budget and other benefits.
