About the job

As an AIT (Assembly, Integration, and Test) Systems Engineer at Orbex, you will serve as the systems engineering representative for AIT, playing a pivotal role in ground support equipment (GSE) development, subsystem and system-level testing, and the integration of rocket hardware. You will bridge flight hardware, ground systems, and test environments, managing requirements and ensuring effective execution of tests as Orbex transitions from component-level validation to vehicle integration. Key responsibilities include coordinating with engineering and AIT teams, supporting the definition of test requirements, developing system-level test documentation, leading test campaigns, overseeing hardware integration, and driving test readiness reviews. Essential qualifications include a degree in Aerospace, Mechanical Engineering, Astrophysics, or a related field, with experience in integrating and testing large mechanical or electromechanical assemblies, along with strong cross-functional communication skills. The role requires a hands-on problem-solving mindset, knowledge of systems engineering principles, and the ability to work under pressure during live tests. Desirable skills include knowledge of complex systems such as launch vehicle architecture, experience with high-pressure fluid systems or AIT, and programming in Python or MATLAB. Orbex offers a salary between £32k and £49k, 34 days of paid leave, pension, cycle-to-work and electric vehicle schemes, life insurance, employee assistance programs, and visa sponsorship with relocation support. Applicants must be UK or European citizens or from MTCR signatory countries and may undergo security checks. Orbex fosters a diverse, international, and inclusive environment, encouraging applications from candidates who share its mission to unlock space for humanity.
