As an Engineering Manager, based in London or remotely within the UK, you’ll lead cross-functional autonomous teams, including Product Managers, engineers (backend, web, and mobile), data scientists, designers, and subject matter experts. You’ll be accountable for people, product, and technical leadership, ensuring delivery excellence and fostering an inclusive environment for engineers to thrive. You’ll manage squads of around 7–10 engineers, coaching and developing them through regular 1:1s and continuous feedback, partnering with senior engineers to drive technical initiatives, and collaborating with stakeholders across teams. While hands-on coding isn’t required, a strong technical and delivery background is essential, with experience guiding teams through complex problem-solving, experimentation-led environments, and achieving outcomes over processes. You’ll contribute to company-wide best practices, optimize engineering impact, and inspire teams towards high performance. Monzo values flexibility and wellbeing, supporting flexible hours, remote work, and costs for office visits if needed. The interview process includes a 30-minute recruiter call, a 1-hour call with a Senior Engineering Manager or Director, and a Loop stage with three 60-minute interviews plus a 30-minute reverse interview covering team/org management, system design, and behavioral questions. The role offers a base salary of £110,500–£145,000 depending on experience, stock options, benefits, a £1,000 annual learning budget, visa sponsorship, and relocation support.
