This is a hybrid full-time role based in Cambridge offering a salary of £48,330–£62,835 per year. As a Machine Learning Research Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of AI-powered learning solutions at Cambridge University Press & Assessment. You will develop, deploy, and maintain scalable AI technologies for Cambridge English products, working closely with product, validation, and business teams to transform AI capabilities into impactful features. Your work will involve optimizing and modularizing models for performance and reuse, using advanced frameworks like PyTorch and TensorFlow, and building scalable AI services with cloud platforms such as AWS, container tools like Docker and Kubernetes, and automated pipelines. To succeed, you must have a Master's degree in machine learning, AI, or computer science, with at least 2 years of hands-on industry experience in production-level ML deployment. You’ll also need strong programming skills in Python and a solid grasp of data analysis, model evaluation, and Agile collaboration. Desirable qualifications include a PhD, experience with NLP, speech technology, LLMs, and published research.
