Nu Quantum Ltd, a leading company in quantum computing and photonic technology, is seeking an Optics Engineer to join its Quantum Networking Unit in Cambridge, UK. This full-time, on-site role offers visa sponsorship and an opportunity to work at the intersection of science and engineering, helping turn foundational quantum principles into real-world applications. The Optics Engineer will be responsible for performing quantum optical measurements, system automation, and benchmarking, particularly focusing on Hong–Ou–Mandel interferometry. The role involves scripting with Python, using ARTIQ for automation, and collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams including electronics, mechanical, and software engineers to design, build, and optimize experimental systems. Candidates should hold a PhD in Physics, Optical Engineering, or a related discipline, or an MSc with equivalent industry experience, and possess hands-on expertise in quantum-optical measurements, fibre-optic systems, feedback loops, and data analysis using Python or Matlab. Strong problem-solving skills, a proactive approach, and effective communication are essential. Desirable experience includes familiarity with GitHub, photonic integrated circuits, semiconductor lasers, optical modulators, and correlation measurements.
