Nu Quantum is creating the Entanglement Fabric for quantum computing scale-out, connecting processors to accelerate fault tolerance and transformational utility. Founded in 2018 as a spin-out of the University of Cambridge’s Cavendish Laboratory, Nu Quantum is seeking a Photonics Test Engineer to join its Photonic Integrated Circuit (PIC) team. The role involves developing and executing characterisation methodologies for integrated photonic components and quantum devices, ensuring their performance, reliability, and scalability for quantum networking infrastructure. Responsibilities include performing characterisation of photonic devices, supporting the automation of test setups with lasers, detectors, and high-speed electronics, analysing data to extract performance metrics, optimising test protocols, documenting procedures, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams including design engineers, quantum optics researchers, and electronics engineers. Applicants should have a postgraduate degree (or equivalent experience) in Photonics, Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, with hands-on experience in integrated photonics testing, optical/electrical setups, scripting (Python, LabVIEW, MATLAB), and data acquisition systems. Knowledge of quantum optics, photonic packaging, foundry processes, or high-speed electronics is desirable. This full-time, permanent role offers visa sponsorship and benefits including flexible working, private medical and dental cover, enhanced family leave, paid sabbatical, cycle scheme, on-site gym membership, and 28 days annual leave plus UK public holidays.
