Nu Quantum is creating the Entanglement Fabric for quantum computing scale-out, enabling data centre-scale quantum computing by connecting processors for fault tolerance and utility. Founded in 2018 as a spin-out of the University of Cambridge’s Cavendish Laboratory, the company is hiring a Principal FPGA Engineer to lead its Control Group in building a scalable, distributed control system for quantum networking. The role involves designing and implementing low-latency, real-time FPGA-based control systems on Xilinx SoC platforms, developing custom packet processing pipelines, and collaborating with hardware and software teams on system architecture. Responsibilities include technical decision-making, process improvement, team management, and system-level debugging for timing-critical applications. Candidates must be proficient in SystemVerilog and/or VHDL, have experience with Xilinx Zynq and Ultrascale devices, Vivado toolchain, low-latency networking protocols, and hardware/software co-design. Knowledge of Python scripting, verification workflows, high-speed buses, and debugging tools is also essential, with additional expertise in White Rabbit protocols, RF processing, and formal verification considered advantageous. The role offers visa sponsorship, a highly collaborative environment, and benefits including flexible working, private medical and dental cover, paid sabbatical, enhanced family leave, on-site gym membership, and 28 days of annual leave plus UK public holidays.
