About the job

Nu Quantum is seeking a Principal FPGA Engineer to join their Cambridge-based team and lead the Control Group in building scalable, distributed control systems for quantum networking. This full-time, permanent, on-site role involves directing and mentoring team members, making technical decisions, and contributing to system-level architecture and robust workflows. Responsibilities include designing, developing, and verifying RTL code for Xilinx Zynq and Ultrascale devices, implementing high-performance data processing pipelines and interface protocols for real-time control, contributing to in-house developments for time synchronization, performing system-level debugging, and collaborating with hardware, software, and operations teams. Candidates must be proficient in SystemVerilog and/or VHDL, experienced with Xilinx platforms, low-latency network protocols, hardware/software co-design, and standard interface protocols. Desirable skills include knowledge of White Rabbit/PTP protocols, 10G/25G PHYs, RISC-V debugging, and RF signal processing. Python proficiency, problem-solving, and strong communication skills are required. Nu Quantum offers flexible working options, private medical and dental cover, paid sabbaticals, on-site gym, cycle scheme, 28 days annual leave, enhanced family leave, and visa sponsorship for eligible candidates, all within an inclusive and diverse workplace driving the future of quantum technology.
