Nu Quantum Ltd is seeking a Principal FPGA Engineer to join its Control Group in Cambridge, reporting to the Head of Engineering and Operations, where you will play a key role in developing scalable, distributed control systems for quantum networking. This role involves leading a team to design and implement real-time, low-latency control systems for analogue, digital, and optical components, requiring strong expertise in SystemVerilog or VHDL, Xilinx SoC platforms (Zynq and Ultrascale), and custom packet processing for timing-critical applications. You will manage the Control Group, support technical decision-making, system architecture, documentation, and contribute directly to gateware development including RTL coding, data pipelines, packet processing, time synchronization with White Rabbit, and ultra-low latency message distribution. The position requires hands-on experience with FPGA debugging, verification methodologies, and scripting (Python) while fostering collaboration with hardware and software teams. As a technical leader, you will also mentor engineers, coordinate with operations teams on budgets and resources, and embody Nu Quantum’s values of scientific integrity, innovation, and diversity. This full-time permanent role comes with attractive benefits including flexible working, group insurance, private medical and dental cover, paid sabbatical, referral schemes, on-site gym, cycle scheme, generous leave policies, and access to Cambridge Botanical Gardens. Visa sponsorship is available, making this an excellent opportunity to join a pioneering company shaping the future of quantum computing.
