The Quantum Control Scientist role at Nu Quantum involves developing, commissioning, and optimising the real-time control systems that drive their in-house trapped-ion quantum processing units. Working within the Atomic, Molecular & Optical (AMO) team, the scientist will design and implement reliable workflows on the ARTIQ platform for time-critical data acquisition, stabilisation protocols, and complex hardware orchestration. The role requires hands-on integration and control of custom electronics, FPGA-based systems, laser and RF hardware, along with Python-based software development to automate experimental processes and improve repeatability. The position also includes creating graphical interfaces, supporting hardware-software debugging, documenting workflows, training team members, and collaborating closely with physicists, engineers, and software specialists to deliver scalable, maintainable solutions. Candidates should have a postgraduate degree in Experimental Physics or equivalent lab experience, strong real-time control and programming skills, and familiarity with laboratory instrumentation and automation tools.
