The role involves leading research in real-time preoperative-to-intraoperative fusion for surgical planning and decision-making, addressing vision ambiguity, occlusions, and other surgical complications. The successful candidate will develop novel methods and set up experiments using robotic arms and various sensors on phantom models to understand underlying principles. They will collaborate closely with computational scientists and clinical teams, including Dr Sharib Ali’s AI in Medicine and Surgery group and project co-lead Shahid Farid at Leeds Teaching Hospital NHS Trust, to develop and test systems. The position requires a PhD (or submission of thesis) in computer science, electronic and electrical engineering, robotics, or a closely related field, with extensive coding experience in Python and C++, prior work in vision-related problems, and experience in deep learning (preferably PyTorch). Flexible working arrangements are offered, and the post may be suitable for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker visa route or the Global Talent visa for research and academic posts.
