Scopely is seeking a Senior Server Engineer to join a new multiplayer strategy MMO game, working remotely or in a hybrid setup from Spain, Ireland, Portugal, or the UK, with visa sponsorship and relocation assistance available. The role involves designing, developing, and maintaining backend services and APIs in Python running on AWS, implementing new features collaboratively with stakeholder teams, analyzing server performance, and enhancing systems to improve player experience and security. The engineer will work with Python web frameworks like Flask, Tornado, or FastAPI, manage highly scalable and reliable systems using Redis and MySQL, and deploy and monitor applications in cloud environments. Responsibilities include collaborating closely with QA teams, staying updated on industry trends, contributing to CI/CD pipelines, and understanding both stateful and stateless server architectures. Bonus skills include familiarity with messaging systems like RabbitMQ or AWS SQS, infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform, and cloud networking concepts. The ideal candidate has experience in large-scale MMO or high-traffic web systems, strong Python programming skills, knowledge of Linux, Docker, Redis, MySQL, and a deep understanding of backend system design, performance, security, and scalability.
