The Senior Laser Scientist role at STFC’s Central Laser Facility (CLF) involves working on the UK Programme of Laser Inertial Fusion Technology for Energy (UPLiFT). You will join the CALTA team to contribute to optical design of a new high-energy laser driver concept, perform optical and thermal modelling (including CFD & FE) to predict system performance, lead proof-of-concept tests of key component technologies, liaise with external suppliers and contractors, and build and test prototype systems in the laser laboratory. The role demands significant knowledge in laser physics, nonlinear optics, solid state laser design, simulations (e.g., MATLAB, ZEMAX), and practical experimental experience. STFC offers flexible working, a defined average salary pension scheme, 30 days annual leave plus bank/privilege days, and visa sponsorship under the UK Skilled Worker route (with reimbursement of some fees after joining) for eligible candidates.
