Cambridge University Press & Assessment is seeking a Senior Machine Learning Research Engineer to join their innovative Applied AI team in Cambridge, UK. This hybrid role (2 days/week in the office) offers a competitive salary of £62,860 – £84,070 and involves designing, developing, deploying, and maintaining AI-powered solutions that enhance Cambridge English products. Responsibilities include leading the full AI solution cycle—from data collection and reusable pipelines to monitoring, continuous development, and scalable model deployment—while collaborating with cross-functional teams to translate business needs into impactful ML applications. The ideal candidate will have a master’s degree or equivalent in machine learning or AI, at least 5 years of hands-on industry experience (excluding internships), deep expertise in Python and frameworks like PyTorch or TensorFlow, and proven success in applying academic research to real-world applications. Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS), containerization tools like Docker and Kubernetes, NLP, GenAI, Agile workflows, and mentoring junior engineers is highly valued. A PhD and a track record of academic contributions are desirable.
