About the job

This is an exciting opportunity to join a disruptive and fast-growing London-based computer networking company at the forefront of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning innovation, specifically in the areas of data centres and high-performance computing (HPC). As a Senior Optical Systems and Networks Architect, you will play a pivotal role in the design, development, and implementation of cutting-edge optical communication systems that aim to revolutionise AI infrastructure while significantly reducing energy consumption for a more sustainable technological future. You will be responsible for leading the technical aspects of optical network system integration, including building and managing optical testbeds, implementing automated measurement methodologies, modelling and characterising both electrical and optical components, and assessing end-to-end network performance for high-speed, short-reach AI networking systems. Your role will involve collaborating with multiple internal teams such as PIC design, systems and networks, and integration, as well as managing relationships with external hardware suppliers. The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on experience in the full lifecycle of optical communication systems—from prototyping to product development—with a strong background in high-baud-rate direct detect systems, digital signal processing (DSP), RF and optical system modelling, and test automation using Python. A PhD in optical communications, physics, or a related field is desirable, although comparable industry experience is also welcomed. This role is well-suited for someone who thrives in a high-impact environment and wants to contribute to transformative AI-driven technologies. In return, you’ll receive a competitive salary ranging from £80,000 to £120,000 depending on experience, along with lucrative stock options, hybrid working arrangements based in London, 25 days of annual leave plus bank holidays, relocation support, and full visa sponsorship for eligible candidates, making this a compelling opportunity for top-tier global talent in optical systems and network engineering.
