Kernel, a high-growth technology startup based in London, is hiring a Senior Platform Engineer to build and scale its Postgres, AWS, and Kubernetes infrastructure that powers massive data operations — processing billions of tokens and millions of agent executions daily. The company develops enterprise intelligence solutions for RevOps teams at major organizations such as Remote, Navan, Zip, and GoCardless, helping them clean CRMs, research companies, and target the right accounts with precision. In this backend-oriented role, you’ll design and manage infrastructure capable of handling high-volume OLTP writes, replication, sharding, and real-time data paths while implementing Infrastructure-as-Code practices using Terraform or Pulumi. You’ll collaborate with product and engineering teams to ensure reliability, cost efficiency, and scalability across Kernel’s infra stack. The ideal candidate has over 6 years of backend or infrastructure engineering experience, deep knowledge of AWS, Postgres, Kubernetes, and data systems, and the ability to work autonomously in a fast-moving environment. Additional experience with analytical databases like Redshift or Clickhouse, observability tools, event streaming (Kafka, Kinesis), and LLM or retrieval infra is a plus. Kernel offers a salary of £120k–£200k plus equity, 24 days of annual leave, pension, and two weeks of “work from anywhere” flexibility. Visa sponsorship is available for exceptional candidates.
