The University of Glasgow is seeking a Senior Research Software Engineering Lead to join the Urban Big Data Centre (UBDC), responsible for designing, developing, and delivering innovative software and data science solutions that support interdisciplinary research, policy, and public impact. This role combines hands-on software development, leadership, and project management, including building scalable applications, data pipelines, and user interfaces, ensuring reproducible, user-focused, and technically sound research outputs. The postholder will work closely with researchers, data scientists, and external partners, mentor a small team, liaise with infrastructure providers, and contribute to funding proposals, embedding software engineering expertise into UBDC’s strategic direction. The ideal candidate will have strong programming skills in Python, R, and/or JavaScript, experience with software engineering best practices, agile methodologies, cloud platforms, and high-performance computing, along with excellent communication, team leadership, and problem-solving abilities. This full-time role is grade 8 (£50,253 - £58,225 per annum) with funding available until 31 October 2028 and may be eligible for Skilled Worker visa sponsorship for UK work eligibility.
