About the job

Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd (SSTL), a subsidiary of Airbus with over 40 years of space heritage, is hiring a Spacecraft Operations Engineer to join their Guildford-based team. This permanent full-time role involves working across the full lifecycle of space missions, from initial bidding and development to LEOP, commissioning, daily operations, and end-of-life processes. Responsibilities include managing operations work packages, developing and documenting procedures, commissioning spacecraft, supporting ground testing, and ensuring spacecraft health through monitoring and anomaly investigations. Candidates will also contribute to ground infrastructure maintenance and collaborate with cross-functional teams including software and ground segments. Essential qualifications include a degree in space engineering or a similar field, understanding of space systems, orbital mechanics, RF communications, and experience or familiarity with spacecraft operations or systems engineering. The role demands excellent communication, problem-solving, time management, and the ability to work independently under pressure. Flexibility to travel internationally for spacecraft commissioning and occasional out-of-hours work is expected. SSTL offers hybrid working options and an attractive benefits package including 32 holidays plus bank holidays, private medical and international travel insurance, annual bonuses, pension scheme, share incentives, and parental leave benefits. Importantly, SSTL supports UK Skilled Worker Visa sponsorship and offers relocation assistance for eligible candidates. This opportunity is ideal for professionals passionate about space, operations, and cutting-edge aerospace missions, who are ready to take on a dynamic role within a global leader in small satellite innovation.
