About the job

The Superconducting Qubit Physicist role at UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) is a full-time, technical position based at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, Harwell Campus, Oxfordshire, UK, focusing on the development and optimisation of superconducting quantum computing (SCQC) systems. The successful candidate will work within the National Quantum Computing Centre (NQCC) on designing, building, and experimentally characterising scalable superconducting qubit systems, performing benchmarking, noise analysis, and quantum error correction, while collaborating with academic and industry partners on enabling technologies. Applicants should have a PhD or equivalent research experience in superconducting quantum devices or related fields, familiarity with dilution fridge measurements, cryogenic microwave signal chains, and scientific programming for instrumentation and data analysis. The role involves full-stack integration of quantum systems, contributing to NQCC’s technology roadmap, and maintaining its technical expertise in quantum computing. UKRI offers a flexible working scheme, a defined benefit pension, 30 days annual leave plus 10.5 bank/privilege days, and other benefits. Visa sponsorship is possible under the Skilled Worker route, with some costs potentially reimbursed after employment.
